Proceedings of a seminar held on 4 and 5 March 1998. The Convention on Biological Diversity signed by over 150 nations who attended the United Nations Conferene on Biological Diversity held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 was a landmark in conservation biology in that it focused attention on the maintenance of biodiversity. This seminar was organised in order to bring together biologists in Ireland to assess what progress was being made towards the conservation of biodiversity, six years after Rio.
