Institute of Art and Law
The Institute of Art and Law is an independent educational body, and was founded in 1995 to provide a range of educational services to both lawyers and non-lawyers, including publication of books and a quarterly journal, conferences and seminars, and distance learning and intensive diploma programs. They publish books on all aspects of the interface between law and art, archaeology, archives, etc. In particular they have published commentaries on the main international conventions on the protection of cultural heritage, the illicit trade in antiquities, war and cultural heritage, museums and the Holocaust, the fate of both archives and Jewish religious artifacts plundered during WWII, authenticity of works of art, the artist's resale royalty right, and various aspects of museum work. They publish about four books a year, and their titles appeal to a wide range of readers involved in the nexus of law and art, such as lawyers (both practitioners and academics), criminologists, museum administrators, archaeologists, art historians, Judaic scholars, and area specialists for countries affected by the plunder of cultural heritage (Peru, Columbia, Mexico, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Greece, Italy, and elsewhere).
