Paths International - Seforim Sale - Criminology

What we've been up to lately...

Most unusually, a book we carry was the basis of a Science Fiction TV show! Blackguards & Blasphemers: The Irish Hellfire Clubs was the basis for the SyFy Channel's December 2013 broadcast of the episode Killer Contact, which explored the Irish Hellfire Clubs; and the episode included an interview with author David Ryan. This book is not only important for 18th century scholars, but fascinating for anyone who has wondered about the truth behind the legends of sexual excess, assaults, devil worship, and murder surrounding the hellfire clubs. This book was published by Merrion, an imprint of Irish Academic Press.

November and December conferences- several publishers we distribute personally came to the US to attend conferences. Hart Publishing, Intersentia, and Eleven International Publishing attended the American Society of Criminology conference in Atlanta, Georgia. All three publishers produce titles on various aspects of criminology, criminal justice, and criminal law, such as Organised Crime and the Law: A Comparative Analysis from Hart, and Sexual Violence as an International Crime: Interdisciplinary Approaches from Intersentia, and Interventions in Criminal Justice: A Handbook for Counsellors and Therapists Working in the Criminal Justice System from Eleven.

In December, The Littman Library of Jewish Civilization came to Boston to attend the Association for Jewish Studies conference. They had many new books to display including Polin v. 26: Jews and Ukrainians, The Jews in Poland and Russia: A Short History by Antony Polonsky, and The Jews in the Caribbean.

Publisher news...

We wish to warmly welcome a remarkable new publisher to ISBS: Paths International. Paths International was established in 2002 with the purpose of bringing high quality academic and professional content written and developed in Asia to Europe and North America. This publisher makes available to the international community books written by Chinese authors from some of the most prestigious universities and institutions in the country.  Their titles are co-publications with major Chinese publishers, such as Social Science Academic Press (CHINA), China Architecture and Building Press, and Guangdong Economy Publishing House. Most of their titles are originally written in Chinese, and then translated and edited in English for the North American and European market. Thus, Paths International offers a view of China from experts in China, and many of these books bring clarity to the seeming blur of recent and ongoing change in China.

What we're up to next...

February 18-22 is the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences conference in Philadelphia. Intersentia will be attending displaying their own titles as well as titles from other publishers we carry.

In other news ...

At this time of year, weather is a big topic. What will the weather be tomorrow, three days from now, or next week? Will I be able to travel to my destination, or will there be a big storm? How cold will it be, and will my pipes freeze? Some people go so far in their concern as to choose a career in predicting the weather. Dunedin Academic Press has produced an introductory level book on the science of meteorology. If you are curious about this field, or thinking of studying it for a career, pick up a copy of Introducing Meteorology: A Guide to Weather.
