Textbook on Quality Management in Libraries

By Sneha Tripathi, Aditya Tripathi

Today, every organization, profit or non-profit, is working to meet the guidelines and standards to qualify their products/services as "Quality" by the society. Libraries are no exception to it. They work to satisfy the information needs of their users at the right time. For this, they have to devise new services through exploitation of information and communication technological tools, evaluate their services and renew their services based on user's feedback. There are some specifications which a library can adopt to provide services that could be tagged as "Quality" by their users. It seems important, then that the library professionals and administrators should be aware of the concept "Quality" and "Total Quality Management" as well as the international standards available. This work explains the various aspects of Quality and Total Quality Management from the perspective of a library professional. It characterizes a Quality System for libraries based on ISO 9001, an international standard for quality assurance system, for the libraries. Some exercises are included after each chapter for readers to evaluate themselves. A comprehensive bibliography and glossary is also included in the end.
