People's Empowerment and Sustainable Rural Development
India has shown significant progress in various sectors during the last few decades. Today, the country is not only self-sufficient in agricultural production, but also possesses world class infrastructure in various fields, such as education, health care, information technology, etc. The country holds greater international attraction due to its huge market size, vast reservoir of manpower, and highly qualified professionals in all disciplines. However, the ground realities compel India to make more dedicated and concerted efforts to provide sufficient food, drinking water, shelter, health facilities, and basic infrastructure to people below the poverty line who constitute more than one quarter of the total population. It is against this backdrop that the present volume looks at, through various approaches, the issue of the empowerment of India's people in general and the poor in particular. The book will be useful for development professionals, as well as change agents working in governmental, non-governmental, and corporate sectors.
