The fourth edition of this book, now co-authored by Valentine Korah and Ioannis Lianos, includes substantially more material on UK competition law and on the economics of competition. An additional new feature is the greater introductory and analytical commentary, making this book suitable for use either as a stand-alone text and materials book, or as a book of materials to be used in conjunction with a second text. Replacing the third edition of Cases and Materials on EC Competition Law (ISBN 978 1 84113 644 8), the book will continue to be one of the best for students coming to competition law for the first time. The materials have been completely updated to take into account all the recent developments in EC competition law, including: the new guidelines on the application of Article 81(3) * guidelines on the method of setting fines imposed pursuant to Article 23(2)(a) of Regulation No. 1/2003 * the Commission Notice on Immunity from fines and reduction of fines in cartel cases * a DG Competition discussion paper on the application of Article 82 of the Treaty to exclusionary abuses * the guidelines on the assessment of non-horizontal mergers * extracts from the leading cases of Consorzio Industries, British Airways v Commission, Microsoft Corp v Commission, Deutsche Telekom AG v Commission, and Bertelsmann AG/Sony Corporation of America v IMP (Impala). As before, the bulk of the text is made up of extracts from Commission decisions, opinions of the Advocates General at the European Court of Justice (ECJ), and judgments of the ECJ and the Court of First Instance. These are supplemented by extracts from EC legislation, as well as comments, notes, and questions prepared by the authors.
